Rozzi Rules and Speaker Change

2/27/2023

0 Comments

During last week’s contentious debate within the Session on Statute of Limitations, Speaker Rozzi discussed his Rules proposal for the Regular Session. Major changes are below and it sounds like these may be part of overall negotiations to have Rozzi step down in favor of Rep Joanna McClinton as Speaker. Rep McClinton represents portions of Delaware County. That announcement may come as soon as today (Friday) for a change next (this) week if a deal is solidified, but it is apparently tenuous.

  • Changing the special order of business process so that a leader cannot hold legislation hostage from majority of members
  • Changing the process of discharge resolutions so that a committee chairman cannot block votes on legislation on committee level
  • Balancing committee membership to reflect close majority (but sounds like Democrat chairs/majorities)
  • Providing that constitutional amendments cannot be placed on the primary ballot where only a fraction of Pennsylvanians participate;
  • Providing that House-originated bills proposing a constitutional amendment can only include one subject
  • Providing for increased protection against sexual harassment and discrimination in the House

PA Chamber Featured at Business in Delco Conference

2/24/2023

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce was excited to host a roundtable discussion with a speaker from PA Chamber of Commerce at our Business in Delco Conference. Halper serves as a lobbyist for the PA Chamber on policy issues including labor/employment policy, education, workforce development, local tax policy, international trade and immigration.  Halper gave an update on the recent successes of the business community, including the reduction of the Corporate Net Income Tax (CNIT), an effort the Delaware County Chamber was proud to be part of. Delaware County Chamber members also had the opportunity to discuss several other topics with Halper, such as workforce development, frivolous law suits, non compete policies and other tax implications with new Legislative Session.

Every February, we honor and pay tribute to the generations of African Americans whose contributions and sacrifices over the decades have shaped our nation. In honor of Black History Month, the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce is proud to shine a light and show our gratitude to the black business owners that play a vital role in our local business community and help our organization drive business forward in Delaware County.

Today we would like you to get to know Keenya Cain -Wiggins. Continue reading Keenya's answers to learn more about her.

Introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about your business:
Hi. I am Keenya Cain -Wiggins aka Chef Shug. My love of cooking came from my love off eating great meals growing up. My grandmother and grandfather especially were gourmet chefs in my eyes and many others. Since I was a teenager sending cookies to WDAS and receiving enough orders to have a staff the love affair began. I have cooked in many establishments, outdoor events and from home all while dreaming to own my very own restaurant. I have had the honor to team up with some of the tri-state area's best buisness owners and provided meals for some great celebrities and loyal clientele. Shugar Shack can also be found at some of the staple event in Delco like Chester's Riverfront Ramble every summer along with various other festivals and events in the tri-state area. Shugar Shack loves to serve the people and wants the chance to feed your heart, mind, and soul. Let us fulfill your food fantasy. We, at Shugar Shack, promise to put food and service first.
