Ransomware is getting worse with no end in sight. What is ransomware? When hackers compromise your network, lock you out of your files and demand money. Typically, the hacker requests bitcoin for the ransom. It’s a risk if you’ll regain access or not and can be debilitating to your business.

Vince Caruso, owner of Nettology shared some tips for Small Business that can help you avoid a ransomware attack, as it’s becoming increasingly easier to hack into a business network.
Main Points of Vulnerability:
  1. Clicking corrupted links and attachments in emails
  2. Unpatched PCs and Servers and network devices
  3. Visiting Compromised websites
  4. Weak company processes

Main points of prevention:
  1. Regular vulnerability assessments and remediation
  2. Consistent and thorough device patching
  3. Ongoing user education
  4. Password management - Using password vault applications.
  5. Image Based Backup Solutions to ensure business continuity if a breach occurs

Tools to check out:
  • KnowBe4.com offers free security tools to test your network and users.
  • Firefox Monitor can tell you if you’re email has been involved in a breach.
  • 1password.com for password management tool.

Feel free to contact Vince Caruso with questions or help getting your network safe!
